Jeanne Cardana (Studio #36)

My interest and desire to draw horses and nature started at a very young age and I was blessed with wonderful mentors during my school years who encouraged me to pursue my art.  Over the years I experimented with watercolors and acrylic, eventually settling with graphite and colored pencils, which I found satisfied my strong desire to capture realistic textures and details of my subjects. More recently I have discovered needle felting and am enjoying creating realistic animal life.

Horses and the love of the natural world have been my inspiration for my artwork.  I strive to capture the essence and personality of the animals I portray and to ‘tell their story’ visually. I have owned and worked with horses all my life and they are likely, my most favored animal subject. It is important to me to get the details, anatomy, and movements correct.  Once I have my subject in mind, the composition and storytelling come together in a way that support the piece’s harmony I wish to capture.

Jeanne will be hosted by Mitzi Kugler (Glass, Mixed Media).
