Debra Glanz (Studio #33)

As the saying goes – “form follows function”. This is never truer than in my works with mixed media and paper. I have always been predisposed to make pieces that not only work as an attractive, intriguing and/or curious piece of art but also have a practical use or function. While I began my career in paper as a book artist I eventually gravitated more toward box forms as they offer nearly unlimited design opportunities and while not everyone is predisposed to write in a book, everyone has something to put in a box. Paper dominates as my medium (purchased, re-purposed and those that I have designed myself) and nearly every piece includes some other component such as turned wood, vintage doll parts or game pieces, letterpress, hand formed beads, shaped wires and so much more.

The final “oooh/ahhh” effect comes when my works are opened and the user finds that the inside is as finished and sometimes more decorative.

NOTE: Pathways through the garden with two sets of stairs to reach the studio.  Not wheelchair accessible.

Debra will be hosted by Jan Rimerman (Painting, Mixed Media)
