Mitzi Kugler (Studio #36)

Ceramics 1981-2002; Lampworking since 2005 ;Fusing since 2006; Welding since 2007.

I make artwork that is both functional and non-functional.

My functional artwork includes bowls and trays of various sizes. For these works I use a variety of techniques such as glass enamel using screen printing, glass wafers, and lampworked components to make it my own distinctive art. I also make my own forms using either clay or metal.

For my standing art, I have developed a unique technique for fusing. I lightly fuse the lampworked components and glass wafers, so they stand out from the background glass to give a 3D effect.

To display my standing art, I weld my own frames. I use a variety of equipment to accomplish the frames including a CMC machine, TIG and MEG welding and a plasma torch.

This process allows me to produce one-of-a-kind works of art from beginning to end.

Mitzi will be hosting: Lucas Nickerson (Painting), Yelena Shabrova (Drawing, Mixed Media), Melissa Gannon (Painting) and Jeanne Cardana (Fiber/Textiles, Drawing).
